A unique neighbourhood on the edge of the city centre

Nestled between the majestic Danube and the lively Nyugati railway station, Ujlipotvaros is regarded as one of Budapest's most characterful and beloved neighbourhoods. Its wide streets lined with plane trees and the greenery of Szent Istvan Park attract visitors, yet the area has kept a friendly, unhurried, almost small-town atmosphere that makes arriving here feel like a real discovery.

Alongside the immediate proximity of the city centre, the neighbourhood offers a safe, clean and exceptionally homely environment. Life here follows the rhythm of culture and relaxation. Mornings begin in artisan bakeries on the corner, afternoons are spent shopping at Westend or exploring Lehel Market, and evenings invite a comfortable walk along the Danube with a glass of wine or coffee as the sun sets behind the Buda hills. The charm of the Danube and Margaret Island

Margaret Island and the riverbank are masterpieces of nature and city relaxation: a huge green oasis and a curving riverside promenade with almost unbelievable views of Parliament and Buda Castle. The Danube promenade runs directly beside the neighbourhood, making it attractive for every age, from families with strollers to morning runners and travellers photographing the sunset.

Early in the morning or late in the afternoon, the riverbank takes on a magical mood: quieter, touched by golden light and unhurried. The entrance to Margaret Island is within walking distance of the apartment, and this is one of the best reasons to stay here.

Local life, markets and shopping

Walk through nearby Lehel Market and you will quickly understand why Hungarian gastronomy is famous around the world. Do not miss the classic langos with garlic and sour cream, an essential part of the local market experience. Among the stalls you can buy excellent fresh fish for dinner, while local producers offer seasonal fruit and vegetables straight from the fields. Sun-ripened Hungarian tomatoes, fragrant paprika, fresh farm products, artisan cheeses and Hungarian specialities make the market as much a sensory experience as a place to shop. Take home a bottle of Tokaji Aszu or real Hungarian jam to keep a taste of Budapest with you.

Ujlipotvaros gastronomy at its best

Ujlipotvaros has a deep-rooted love affair with cafe culture and good food, and nowhere is this more visible than on the famous Pozsonyi Road. Family-run bistros, stylish cafes and traditional restaurants serve steaming goulash soup, crisp pastries and the best of modern international cuisine. The neighbourhood's gastronomy reflects a rich fusion of classic Budapest Jewish-civic cuisine and modern European trends.

Festivals

District 13 and Budapest as a whole are at their liveliest during world-class events. If you arrive in August, the legendary Sziget Festival, one of Europe's largest music and cultural festivals, is almost next door on Obuda Island and can be reached from the apartment directly and very quickly. The apartment is also a perfect base for Formula 1 fans: during the Hungarian Grand Prix, getting to the Hungaroring is smooth and simple thanks to nearby Nyugati railway station, Westend and excellent public transport connections.

Alongside global events, the neighbourhood also keeps its own intimate local culture. The annual Pozsonyi Picnic grows into one of the capital's most popular arts festivals every early autumn, filling the surrounding streets with theatre performances, live music and street food. In summer, the Margaret Island Open-Air Stage offers world-class concerts and operas, while outside peak season the evening lights of nearby Vigszinhaz theatre and local gallery exhibitions give this living, vibrant community its timeless rhythm. Transport and access

Thanks to its central location, Doma Budapest is easy to reach

Nyugati railway station, metro, trams and buses provide fast links to the city centre, railway stations and airport connections.

From the airport: the apartment can be reached by taxi or public transport.

The main sights are quick to reach by public transport, and many central places are also walkable.

Tip: for longer stays, a multi-day BKK public transport pass can be very useful.
